Administration buys glass crusher that turns glass into powder for use in pavers.

The mayor of a small town in Santa Catarina announced on Wednesday afternoon the acquisition of three Crushers for the Infrastructure department, one of them for glass bottles. According to the mayor and the Infrastructure secretary, the resulting glass powder will be sent to the city's Penitentiary Complex, where it can replace part of the sand in the manufacture of pavers. In exchange, the municipality will receive a portion of the production.

"We collect 11 thousand kilograms of bottles per month and had an expense to give them the correct destination. With this machine, the glass powder is reused in pavers that we will use in public spaces," said the mayor.

According to the Solid Waste manager of the Infrastructure department, the machine has a capacity to crush 120 bottles per minute. It is already being used for the material collected at the Ecopoints.

"The machine will undergo adjustments considering the logistics, local disposal where it will be installed aiming for greater efficiency. We also highlight that soon 20 new containers will be installed at voluntary delivery points (PVEs) for glass, allowing the population to correctly dispose of their glass. The Voluntary Delivery Points (PEVs) allow and ensure that post-consumer materials can be collected and given the correct destination with reuse."

The secretary emphasized that in addition to the glass Crusher, a furniture Crusher and a branch Crusher were also acquired.
