Currently, all the vegetal pruning waste collected by the Municipal Government is taken directly to the municipal landfill, without the material being shredded at any stage of transportation or storage. By shredding the material, the waste can be reduced in volume by up to 80% compared to the raw material, thus generating a savings of up to 80% in the transportation of this material.
In addition to the savings, the shredded material has a uniform size, which allows for the decomposition of green waste to occur in a controlled and accelerated manner. Therefore, the acquisition of the branch Crusher is justified by the savings of municipal public resources, since the disposal of organic waste generates a high cost in transportation logistics to the municipality of Ilhabela, as well as being an unavailable item in the composting yard project to be installed on the land of the Municipal Landfill of Água Branca.
Currently, an average of 2,060.00 tons are collected monthly, of which 80% (approximately 1,648.00T) come from pruning waste. It can be estimated that we would have a monthly average cost reduction in the disposal of waste from pruning of R$ 53,560.00 (fifty-three thousand five hundred and sixty reais), corresponding to 50% of the total percentage of pruning that will be reused as raw material for composting systems and preparation for planting native species for the recovery of degraded areas.
