Biomass is the third source that generates the most energy in Brazil.

Energy produced from biomass ranks third in energy generated in Brazil, with energy from sugarcane bagasse representing 9,668 MWh in 383 plants, which accounts for approximately 7% of national production.
According to data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), energy from hydroelectric plants accounts for 63% of Brazilian production, delivering about 87 thousand MWh, totaling 1130 plants.
Elizabeth Farina, president of UNICA, states that long-term policies are needed for bioelectricity. She believes that in order to boost bioelectricity production in the country, besides auctions, it is necessary to have rewarding prices.
