Commission approves project with tax benefit for biomass energy production on rural property

The Mining and Energy Commission approved on Tuesday (25) Bill 6146/19, by former deputy Schiavinato (PR), which exempts rural properties that generate electricity from biomass, such as crop residues and animal manure, from the Rural Property Tax (ITR).
The proposal received a favorable opinion from the rapporteur, Deputy Eduardo Bismarck (PDT-CE).
He agreed with Schiavinato's argument that the use of biomass on properties has been hindered by the high costs of implementing energy production systems.
Bismarck also highlighted the benefits of energy production from biomass. "Its use for energy generation generates a low amount of pollutants, favors the reuse of resources, and has low operating costs," he said.
The approved project amends Law 9.393/96, which regulates the ITR, a tax of federal competence paid annually by rural property owners.
