News04 de May de 2025
African Mahogany is one of the most profitable noble woods for investors and producers. Its cultivation has been increasing in Brazil, as there is a growing demand for alternatives to illegal use of native trees.
Due to its appearance, African Mahogany is widely used in the furniture, construction, and naval industries. Thanks to its high adaptability, the plant has achieved excellent results in the national territory, including in dry, humid, and frost-prone areas.
In the city of Barão de Monte Alto, in Minas Gerais, 50 hectares of the plant are being cultivated. According to the project coordinator, Higino Martins Aquino, the success of the cultivation is related to activities carried out before planting, such as soil analysis, correction activities, among others.
It is estimated that the investment for planting and maintaining African Mahogany may reach R$ 27,000 per hectare. However, after harvesting, the revenue generated per hectare can reach R$ 500,000, as it is a high-value crop.
The ideal time for harvesting African Mahogany is between 15 and 18 years, making it a long-term investment. However, from the 3rd to 4th year of planting, the market value of the land multiplies due to the rarity of the wood and the high demand from timber industry entrepreneurs.
