Itaipu acquires a Lippel crusher.

The Protected Areas Division (MARP.CD) received and tested a Lippel PTU 300 branch shredder on the last day of the 24th to replace the previous one that had manual handling. It will be used in villages A and C of Itaipu. Using this shredder reduces the volume of waste, thus reducing the number of trips needed to transport the material, as well as reducing operating time. Using this shredder also benefits the improvement of degraded soils, as there is a noticeable difference between using raw material and using quality biomass to fertilize the soil. According to MARP.CD manager Edson Zanlorensi, "shredding woody material reduces the volume of waste disposal at Itaipu landfill, and at the same time, the process of decomposition and reincorporation of nutrients into nature is much faster with shredded material." Using this shredder will bring a great cost/benefit to Itaipu, and the value of the machinery becomes almost negligible due to the time savings, environmental benefits, reduced maintenance costs, and savings on truck maintenance and fuel, as they will be less used from now on.
